Congratulations, Kyle!

Congratulations to our new IC4C Youth Coordinator, Kyle Burghout, who placed first in the Eastern North American Irish Fiddling Championship, held in New York on May 9, which will take him to Sligo, Ireland, for the All-Ireland Fiddle Competition in August! Kyle is familiar with Sligo as he competed there in 2014, after placing second in the 2014 Eastern North American Irish Fiddling Competition.

Thank you, Basia!

Our warmest thanks to Basia Walczak, outgoing  IC4C Youth Coordinator (2012-2015).  Under Basia’s leadership, IC4C has flourished and raised more funds for the Peaceful Children’s Homes than ever before!  We wish Basia every success as she embarks upon her Master’s studies!

Our warmest thanks to Janina!

A benefit house-concert by  the renowned pianist, Janina Fialkowska, Honorary Patron of  “In Concert for Cambodia”, was held in Ottawa on May 18.  The concert drew a large and enthusiastic audience, including the Ambassador of Poland, Marcin Bosacki, and Mrs.  Bosacka.  Janina’s repertoire included Grieg, Schumann, Ravel and Chopin.  The concert was followed by a reception and later by dinner with the artist and the Polish Ambassador at The Urban Pear restaurant. The concert raised $2,800 for the Peaceful Children’s Homes.

IC4C receives the 2015 “Expérience Asie” Award!

On May 23, IC4C was honoured to receive the 2015 “Expérience Asie” Award, given to Canadians for exceptional contributions to Asian culture and humanitarian assistance, at the “Journée du patrimoine asiatique” at the City Hall of Gatineau, Québec. On hand  to receive the award – which is a tribute to all present and past IC4C musicians and organizers  – were IC4C Youth Coordinator, Kyle Burghout, former IC4C Youth Coordinator, Nicolas Côté, and IC4C Coordinator, Flora Liebich, together with IC4C Committee member, Mary Prum (who is also on the Board of Directors of the “Peaceful Children’s Homes”).  Later in the program, Kyle played a medley of fiddle tunes which had Kai Whitcombe, Event Organizer, dancing to his music!

We will keep you posted on preparations for our upcoming concerts, planned for November 2015 and a “Tenth Anniversary Concert” in Spring 2016.  In the meantime, the musicians are available to perform in homes or at private functions, with donations going to the Peaceful Children’s Homes.
